Pauley was adopted February 20, 2021!
Pauley may be a senior in years lived, but he remains quite active and playful. At the time of his rescue from Devore Shelter in February 2020, he was estimated to be about 10 years old. He obviously lived an “interesting” life before ending up in the high-kill shelter and has a cauliflower ear and some battle scars to show for it. Initially when he arrived at his foster home, he did not know how to interact appropriately with other kitties, but he has learned from the other kitties in the home and he now both plays with and grooms them.
Pauley’s favorite activity is eating!!! It’s very possible that he had to fight for food to eat for a good part of his life and is making up for it now. He’s gained a lot of weight since his rescue. Since obesity can shorten a kitty’s lifespan – and because he has a lot of food available to him in his foster home – it would be best for him to be adopted into a home with either no other kitties, one other kitty, or a means to limit the amount of food to which he has access.
In addition to eating, Pauley does enjoy cuddling and getting pets and kisses. He has a unique “squawk” and is very expressive, especially when he wants attention. He’s a lap kitty and he likes being near people, including at bedtime. He enjoys playing with catnip toys and anything he can bat around.
Pauley is considered a “special needs” kitty. He tested positive for FIV, also known as Feline Immunodeficiency Virus. This means that his immune system is compromised and he needs a healthy diet and routine veterinary care.
