Lela can be a bit shy and even a little hissy at first but when you read her story, you’ll have a better idea why.
It was November of 2018 when we received an urgent message late one evening on our Facebook page. A young woman who lived in Devore Shelter jurisdiction was pleading for our help. She’d found a tiny baby kitten near a dumpster in her alley whose eyes were completely encrusted and sealed shut. Although the woman had a lot of love to give this little kitten, she didn’t have the financial means. Without hesitation we urged her to take her to an emergency veterinarian we work with and who also happened to be local to her for medical treatment.
Thankfully, fast action was able to save one of Lela’s eyes but the other didn’t fare as well . Despite the infection, there was little we could do. We were told that when she got a little older and she was ready for her spay procedure, it would need to be removed… and when she was, we did. So it’s understandable why Lela is a little wary of people, other kitties and other animals at first. She just wants to be sure you won’t hurt her. However, once she knows she can trust you and that you’ll love and care for her, she warms up quickly and becomes quite the purr machine.
Winky kitties – which is what we call one-eyed kitties – don’t let their compromised sight stand in the way of anything other kitties can do. If anything, some of them go out of their way to be downright amazing just to dispel any doubts. If you’re looking for a sweet girl to love and you’ve got a gentle soul and a kind heart, maybe Lela is the perfect kitty for you. Fill out an adoption application for her today!
