Since December 2011, Kitty Devore Rescue Network has worked tirelessly to save over 6,400 kitties from Devore Shelter, in San Bernardino, CA. Our mission is to Rescue, Rehabilitate and Rehome the cats and kittens of Devore Shelter, saving one kitty at a time, no Friendly left behind!
However, we wouldn’t have been able to save a single life without the help of those who believe in the work we do and are willing to contribute to our mission.
In addition to paying our pullers a compensation fee every time they visit the shelter to rescue a kitty in need of a second chance, our expenses also include transport fees (for short and long distances), short term boarding and basic vetting (spaying or neutering, microchipping, vaccines, snap testing for FeLV and FIV, as well as internal and external parasite treatments). Many kitties coming out of the shelter have the dreaded Kitty Cold – Upper Respiratory Infections – that require veterinary intervention and medication. Some have bad teeth and require dental surgeries that can cost up to $1,000. Others have issues that are critical and require specialized and extensive medical treatment. Our rescue policy is to address all observable and discoverable health issues – and we do for every kitty we welcome into our foster care program.
Each month we rescue an average of 75 to 100 cats from Devore Shelter. On average, each cat costs us about $200 to $300 to rescue and fully vet. However, some cats who have far exceeded this and range more along the lines of $300 to $5,000+. Our standards for basic vetting and socialization are so high because we believe that when a kitty is adopted it should be as healthy and happy as can be so that the transition into its new home will be a smooth as possible. Yet, irrespective of the expense invested in each kitty we save, we only charge a $175 adoption fee.
